Privacy
Kurio is an app on your own computer. Your photos, your Instagram posts and everything Kurio learns about your taste stay there. We don't have a copy.
What stays on your computer
Kurio reads the photo folders you choose, builds an index of them, and keeps your verdicts, plans and settings in its own data folder on your computer. It never changes, moves or uploads your photo files. None of this is sent to us.
Your Instagram account
When you choose Connect Instagram, you sign in with Meta and choose which Instagram accounts to share. You give Kurio one permission: instagram_basic. With it Kurio reads, for the accounts you share:
- your username, account type and Instagram user ID, to match the account to the one you set up in Kurio;
- your posts: their images, dates and links.
Kurio uses your posts to know which photos you've already posted (so it doesn't suggest them again) and to learn what your feed looks like (so it can suggest photos that fit it). It does not read your messages, comments, followers or insights, and it never posts, edits or deletes anything on Instagram.
The posts' images are downloaded to Kurio's data folder on your computer. The sign-in token Instagram gives Kurio is kept on your computer, encrypted for your user account (Windows data protection, or the Keychain on a Mac), and if Meta stops accepting it, Kurio asks you to connect again.
What this website does
Signing in to Instagram needs one step on a server, because swapping Instagram's one-time sign-in code for a token needs Kurio's app secret, which can't be shipped inside the app. This website does that step and then passes the token straight to Kurio on your computer (in the part of the address browsers never send to any server). It does not store or log the code or the token.
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address to tell you when Kurio opens, and nothing else.
Other connections Kurio makes
- It downloads its image model once, when you set it up.
- It checks for new versions of Kurio and downloads them when you choose to update.
- If you turn on phone access, your phone talks to Kurio on your own wifi, after you pair it with a code.
- If you connect a Creative References account, a photo goes to it only when you choose Send to a board.
Kurio has no analytics, ads or tracking, and we don't sell or share your data.
Removing your data
See deleting your data: disconnecting Instagram in Kurio deletes its token, and deleting Kurio's data folder removes everything Kurio kept.
